Volunteer With Us: Community Gardening on Roupell Park Estate
We're looking for a volunteer to join our team on Roupell Park Estate on Brixton Hill to support our ongoing community green and blue infrastructure programme. You’ll be working alongside our community gardener, Josephine, to help nurture the growing green spaces on the estate and connect with the people who use them.
What you'll be doing
You'll work closely with Josephine to:
Join the whole team for our Community Fun Day on Saturday 8th August — a chance to celebrate the project with residents, meet the wider team, and see the impact of the work so far
Deliver community gardening sessions — helping residents get hands-on with planting, maintenance, and seasonal tasks in the estate's green spaces
Support community consultations — helping us listen to residents about what they want to see from the green spaces on their doorstep, and feeding that back into our design and planning
Ongoing commitment
Beyond the fun day, we run monthly community gardening sessions on the last Saturday of each month, in the afternoon. As a volunteer, you'd coordinate directly with Josephine and pitch in on whatever tasks need doing that day; this could be anything from bed preparation and planting to watering, weeding, or helping set up for a session and go through questionaires with participants.
Who we're looking for
No specific experience is necessary, just an interest in gardening, permaculture, community work and a willingness to get stuck in. You'll be working directly with Josephine, so this is a great opportunity to learn hands-on horticultural and community engagement skills in a supportive, informal setting.
About the project
Greening Roupell Park is a community green and blue infrastructure programme run by Social Landscapes on Roupell Park Estate in Lambeth (SW2), working with residents to green shared spaces and build community connection around them. The programme is funded by the Mayor of London’s Green Roots Grant.
Interested?
If you'd like to get involved, please email rachel@sociallandscapes.co.uk with an expression of interest ideally before July 31st, including your background and why you’re interested in the role. We'd love to hear from you, and we'd particularly love to see you at the Community Fun Day on 8th August as a first taste of what the project's about.
