A 2-day Introduction to Permaculture

Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of February 2024 at Global Generation’s Story Garden near King’s Cross.

Learn the basics of Permaculture Design on this two-day Introduction to Permaculture and get ready to try it out in your garden, your workplace and your life.

What will the Introduction to Permaculture course offer?

This course introduces the basics of permaculture and shows how this fascinating design methodology can profoundly change the way we look at the world and engage in it. The course gives participants an understanding of the diverse uses and applications of permaculture design and its immense potential of turning scarcity into abundance. Participants will walk away with:

… a clear understanding of what permaculture is, its origins, the context under which it came about and its development;

… knowledge of its ethical framework, the basic ecological, attitudinal and some design principles;

… an overview of its applications in various fields, as a response to social, economic and environmental challenges and as a tool for personal transformation and social change;

… having tested the basic design methodology and various design tools such as zoning, sector analysis and input-output analysis;

… having visited a local project and engaged in some practical permaculture gardening activity;

… enthusiasm and inspiration.

"I found the Permaculture Principles we learned all relevant to my life. If I never touch a plant again, my life will still have been changed by this experience."

- Daniel, permaculture intro course participant

Tutor

Michel Thill

Michel has studied Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning with a special interest in the relationship between ecological, personal and cultural renewal. He's come across permaculture during his studies and was drawn to its ability to bring together ecological design, community building, social justice and personal change.

Practicalities:

Venue

The course will take place at Global Generation’s Story Garden, located on an acre of meanwhile space at the British Library. From their webpage, about the garden:

“The Story Garden is also a garden of a 1000 hands- a garden nestled in-between big institutions (British Library, Francis Crick Institute, and St Pancras International Station) which has been transformed from a large empty concrete car park into a place where food and nature is grown, stories are shared, heard and told, new ways of knowing are found and communities are created. The Story Garden is constantly evolving- finding inspiration from nature and from those who dig deep and feel its soil on their feet.”

Lunch

We suggest a vegetarian potluck lunch. Everyone brings a meal to share. It is also okay to bring your own lunch.
